Western pass of the Pelvoux 3609 m
Meeting :
Pelvoux refuge (2700 m) 6pm.
Pelvoux’s Western pass is set with high walls and pointed needles, but its access remains easy and snowy. This combination allows you to feel the atmosphere of the High Mountain without having to seek the difficulty, starting from a warm and particular refuge, full of history.
Programm
– Meet your High Mountain Guide at 6pm at the Pelvoux refuge (2700m) which you will reach in three to four hours walking from the village of Ailefroide.
– The next day, leaving a little before sunrise, and after reaching the Bosse de Sialouze, you will go up the Sialouze glacier to Pelvoux’s Western pass, between the Pic Sans nom and the Pelvoux, which the rope climbers who left earlier will be climbing through the famous Coolidge corridor. Return by the same route. Ascending elevation: 900 m / descending elevation: 900 m. (From the refuge to the refuge) Rise time: 4 h

– bed sheet. No need for sleeping bags (there are blankets at the refuge)
– alpinism shoes with stiff soles that can be fitted with crampons (check with your crampons before you hike to the refuge) (1)

Access
Pelvoux refuge is accessible by foot from Ailefroide where you can park your vehicle. Around 1200 m. of ascending elevation.
To access Ailefroide, you have to go through the valley, from L’Argentière la Bessée (Hautes Alpes), Vallouise and Pelvoux. There is a train station at L’Argentière la Bessée (“L’argentière les Écrins).
