The Arsine Glacier’s peak, which is very close to the Glacier Blanc refuge, dominates the wonderful glacial river. You’ll climb this fast-access summit surrounded by this amazing landscape. It is a very varied route with snow, you’ll also raise your awareness of high mountain by hiking on some easy rocks that lead to a real summit. On the top of the summit, you’ll discover a circular panorama that allows you to see the Alps of Savoy and even the famous Mont Blanc if the day is clear.

Programm

1st day : Meet your High Mountain Guide at 1:30 pm at the Glacier Blanc refuge (2550 m) which you will reach in about two hours of hiking from Mme Carle’s meadow, above the village of Ailefroide. Departure for the ice school, it will happen on the Glacier Blanc which is really close to the refuge. Return in the late afternoon.
Ascending elevation: 1000 m / Descending elevation: 300 m.
Hiking time: 3 to 4 hours from the refuge.

2nd day : Departure few minutes before sunrise, depending on the time of the season. After climbing the slopes along the Glacier Blanc, you will climb towards the Glacier Blanc pass and through some slopes half snow half rock, to the nearby summit.
Return by the same route.

Equipment

 Mountain pants.
 Warm under clothes.
 Warm fleece jacket.
 Waterproof and breathable jacket.
 2 pairs of gloves, hat.
 Warm socks.
 Sunglasses, sunscreen for face and lips.
 Medium capacity backpack (30 to 40 litres).
 A minimum of one litre bottle, groceries and picnic.
 Sunscreen, face and lips.
 Headlamp with batteries in good condition.
 bed sheet. No need for sleeping bags (there are blankets at the refuge)

Access

You can access the Glacier Blanc refuge by foot from the Mme Carle’s meadow where you can easily park your vehicle (large car park). About 700 meters of ascending elevation. To access Mme Carle’s meadow, you have to go through the valley from Argentière la Bessée in the Hautes Alpes via Vallouise, Pelvoux and Ailefroide. There is a train station at L’Argentière la Bessée called “L’argentière les Écrins".

Level

You can be a beginner on the snow, you only need to be in good physical shape.

Price

This price includes the prestation of a high-mountain guide of the Bureau des Guides and Accompagnateurs des Écrins. It does not include the eventual rental of equipment, neither the night at the refuge or your meals/snacks.

Period

Scheduled all summer long from June to September. The Glacier Blanc refuge is guarded until mid-September. After this date, you would have to make yourself your meals, with a stove, by taking the food to the refuge.
