1pm at the white glacier
- Come to learn how to hike on a glacier, you’ll have the opportunity to approach the crevasses and immerse yourself in the world of ice. Your guide will teach you how to use the equipment necessary for hiking on a glacier. Accessible to everyone, the Ice School is a great way to set foot on a Glacier for the first time.
Programm
You have an appointment with your Guide in front of the Refuge at 1pm.
Then he will guide you to the majestic White Glacier, it represents about 30 minutes of walk. Then it will be time to equip yourself under the wise advices of your Guide who will take the time to explain and make you practice your first steps on Glacier.
EDUCATIONAL CONTENT :</strong
– Walking technique on snow and ice.
– use of ice axe, crampons.
– Rope-making technology.
– Workshops.
– Visit of crevasse.
Equipment
– 30-litre backpack with ice axe holder, preferably without side pockets.
– Water-repellent mountain pants
– Warm socks
– Warm fleece
– Technical underwear with long sleeves (no cotton)
– T-shirt (no cotton)
– Breathable jacket type "gore tex"
– 1 pair of gloves, one of which is thin
– Hat
– Gaiters or stop all
– Good quality sunglasses, high sun protection creams for skin and lips
– 1 ice axe(1)
– 1 pair of crampons adjusted to your shoes before going up to the refuge
– 1 helmet(1)
– 1 harness + screw carabiner(1)
– alpinism shoes with stiff soles that can be fitted with crampons (1)
– Small personal pharmacy (aspirin, blister care)
– Bottle (1 litre minimum)
– Hiking sticks
– Some additional snacks, such as energy bars, dried fruit

Access
You can access the White Glacier Refuge from the Près de Mme Carles where you can park your car. It’s about 2-hour of walk on a wide and well-marked path that will take you to the Refuge du Glacier Blanc.
