The medium difficulty of this wonderful rocky ridge will allow you to fully enjoy the panorama that is offer to you: it is one of the most beautiful scenery in the Alps. The technically easy descent will allow you to devote yourself entirely to climbing.

Programm

– You will be meeting your Guide around 6pm at the Glacier Blanc refuge (2550m) which can be reached in about 2h15 of hiking from the Pré de Mme Carle.
– The following day, after climbing the slopes along the Glacier Blanc, you will rise to the foot of the ridge where the route begins. The route follows the edge of the ridge as closely as possible, with two abseils and beautiful passages facing the Glacier Blanc cirque and the Barre des Écrins.

Equipment

– Mountain pants.
– Warm underwear.
– Warm fleece jacket.
– Waterproof and breathable jacket.
– 2 pairs of gloves, bonnet.
– Warm socks.
– Sunglasses, sunscreen for face and lips.
– Medium capacity backpack (30 to 40 litres).
– Gourde (minimum 1 liter), lunch and snacks, picnic.
– Sunscreen, face and lips.
– Headlamp with batteries in good condition.
– Bed sheet ("meat bag"). No sleeping bag, there are blankets at the shelter.
– Descender or similar device with its screw carabiner. Cordet.
– An additional screw carabiner.

– Alpinism shoes with stiff soles that can be fitted with (check with your crampons before you hike to the refuge)(1)
– Medium-sized, space-saving classic ice axe(1)
– Crampons adjusted on your shoes.(1)

Access

The Refuge of the Glacier Blanc is accessible by foot from the Pré de Mme Carle where you can leave your vehicle (large car park). There is about 700 meters of, ascending elevation. To Access Mme Carle’s meadow, you have to go through the valley from Argentière la Bessée (Hautes Alpes), Vallouise, Pelvoux and Ailefroide. There is a train station at L’Argentière la Bessée called "L’Argentière les Ecrins").

Level

– It is necessary to have experience with crampons, and to climb in 4° degree in the mountains, with mountaineering shoes and a backpack. This involves climbing in the valley, and having a very good physical fitness and a certain ease in rocky terrain.
– Rating "AD" - Quite difficult.

Price

This price includes the services of a high mountain guide from the Bureau des Guides et Accompagnateur des Écrins. It does not include the possible rental of the equipment, nor the accommodation in a refuge and your meals / snack and food.

Period

Course scheduled all summer from June to mid-September. On request outside these dates. The Glacier Blanc refuge is guarded until mid-September. After this date we will have to consider making our own meal on site, with a stove and having taken the food to the refuge.
