An astute progression from western slope to western slope, with a beautiful rocky finish, this complete ascent cannot leave you indifferent as it transports you to an aerial summit full of charm. You enter the field of mountaineering, with a magnificent climbing slab, straightforward, and abseiling to the descent.

Programm

you’ll meet your High Mountain Guide at around 6pm at the White glacier refuge (2550m) which you will have reached in about two hours’ of walk from Mme Carle’s meadow, above the village of Ailefroide. The next day, leaving just before sunrise (depending on the time of the season) and after climbing the slopes of the Monetier pass, you will set foot on the sunny eastern slope of the Glacier to reach the rocky part of the route. After the ascent of Tuckett pass, the climb becomes aerial, in the clear sky of the Ecrins. Ascending elevation: 1100 m Descending elevation: 1100 m. (from the refuge to the refuge). Hiking time: 4 h.

Equipment

 Mountain pants.
 Warm under clothes.

 Medium capacity backpack (30 to 40 litres).

Access

The white glacier refuge is accessible by foot from Mme Carle’s meadow where you can leave your vehicle (large car park). About 700 m. of ascending elevation. You can access Mme Carle’s meadow by going up the valley from Argentière la Bessée in the Hautes Alpes via Vallouise, Pelvoux, Ailefroide. Train station at L’Argentière la Bessée called "L’Argentière les Écrins".

Level

You need to have some experience in the rocks that are easy to climb and descend (Possibility of having to carry out one or two abseils during the descent).

Price

This price includes the services of a high mountain guide from the Ecrin guide office. It does not include the possible rental of the equipment, nor the accommodation in a refuge and your meals / snacks.

Period

Route scheduled all summer from June to mid-September, if conditions. On request outside these dates. This route suffers from drought in season, so it is advisable to do it in early summer depending on snow conditions, before August 1. Contact us to know more about the evolution of the conditions. The White glacier refuge is guarded until mid-September. After this date, you will have to consider making your own meal on site, with a stove.
