The Sélé valley leads you into the intimacy of the wild Oisans, of which immensity opens the hearts of men. Here the nature takes back its rights, the glacier with its soft slopes is surrounded by stiff ridges and the view over the Bans at the pass is a reward full of perspectives.

Programm

You will be meeting your High Mountain Guide around 6pm at the Sélé refuge (2511m) which you will reach in about three hours of hiking from the village of Ailefroide. The following day, you will be leaving just before sunrise depending on the time of the season, and after having gone up the valley in the light of the headlamp, you will get a foothold on the Glacier as the day rises in the east. The peaks are illuminated, slowly awakened by the sun which stretches slowly so you will not be disturb in your morning hike towards this pass which opens the valley of Le Sélé to distant horizons. Return by the same route.

Equipment

 Mountain pants.
 Warm Underwear.
 Warm fleece jacket.
 Waterproof and breathable jacket.
 2 pairs of gloves, hat.
 Warm socks.
 Sunglasses, sunscreen for face and lips.
 Medium capacity backpack (30 to 40 litres).
 Gourde (minimum 1 liter), lunches and snacks, picnic
 Sunscreen, face and lips.
 Headlamp with batteries in good condition.
 bed sheet. No need for sleeping bags (there are blankets at the refuge)

 alpinism shoes with stiff soles that can be fitted with crampons (check with your crampons before you hike to the refuge) (1)

Access

The refuge of the Sélé is accessible by foot from Ailefroide, where you can park your vehicle (there’s a carpark). There is around 1000 meters of ascending elevation. To access Ailefroide, you have to go through the valley, from L’Argentière la Bessée (Hautes Alpes), Vallouise and Pelvoux. There is a train station at L’Argentière la Bessée called "L’argentière les Écrins".

Level

You can be a beginner on the snow, you only need to have a good physical shape. The ascent to the refuge requires to be sure-footed to cross the "Barre du Sélé" (L’Ouro), which is secured by cables.

Price

This price includes the prestation of a high-mountain guide of the Bureau des Guides et Accompagnateurs des Écrins. It does not include the eventual rental of equipment, neither the night at the refuge or your meals/snacks.

Period

This tour is planned during summer, from june to september. On request out of these dates. The Sélé refuge is guarded from june to start of September. Out of these dates, you would have to make yourself your meals, with a stove, by taking the food to the refuge.
