South ridge of the Petit Pelvoux
Programm
– The following day, wake-up before daylight, about 2 hours of hiking to reach the departure of the South ridge. Then 5 hours of climbing on a very good rock to reach the top of the small Pelvoux, 350 m of climbing of a level 4+ max. Then there’s a long descent to Ailefroide via the Glacier des Violettes, some abseils and finally the Ailefroide turns.
Equipment
– Mountain pants.
– Warm underwear.
– Warm fleece jacket.
– Waterproof and breathable jacket.
– 2 pairs of gloves, hat.
– Warm socks.
– Sunglasses, sunscreen for face and lips.
– Medium capacity backpack (30 to 40 litres).
– Gourde (minimum 1 liter), lunches and snacks, picnic
– Sunscreen, face and lips.
– Headlamp with batteries in good condition.
– bed sheet. No need for sleeping bags (there are blankets at the refuge)
– alpinism shoes with stiff soles that can be fitted with crampons (check with your crampons before you hike to the refuge) (1)
– Classic ice axe(1)
– Cleats adjusted on your shoes.(1)
– Harness.(1)

– Hiking sticks.(1)
– Climbing shoes, possibly magnesia.
– Descender, screw carabiner, rope, rope, rope for rappels.
