Magnificent rocky ridge race on one of the most prestigious summits of the Ecrins, the Pelvoux.

Programm

– Meet at the Pelvoux refuge at 6pm. Ascent to the Pelvoux refuge from Ailefroide, 3h (1200m of altitude difference).
– The following day, wake-up before daylight, about 2 hours of hiking to reach the departure of the South ridge. Then 5 hours of climbing on a very good rock to reach the top of the small Pelvoux, 350 m of climbing of a level 4+ max. Then there’s a long descent to Ailefroide via the Glacier des Violettes, some abseils and finally the Ailefroide turns.

Equipment

– Mountain pants.
– Warm underwear.
– Warm fleece jacket.
– Waterproof and breathable jacket.
– 2 pairs of gloves, hat.
– Warm socks.
– Sunglasses, sunscreen for face and lips.
– Medium capacity backpack (30 to 40 litres).
– Gourde (minimum 1 liter), lunches and snacks, picnic
– Sunscreen, face and lips.
– Headlamp with batteries in good condition.
– bed sheet. No need for sleeping bags (there are blankets at the refuge)

– alpinism shoes with stiff soles that can be fitted with crampons (check with your crampons before you hike to the refuge) (1)
– Classic ice axe(1)
– Cleats adjusted on your shoes.(1)

– Climbing shoes, possibly magnesia.
– Descender, screw carabiner, rope, rope, rope for rappels.

Access

The Refuge of the Pelvoux is accessible by foot from Ailefroide where you can leave your vehicle (parking). Approximately 1200 m of ascending elevation. To access Ailefroide, you have to go through the valley, from L’Argentière la Bessée (Hautes Alpes), Vallouise and Pelvoux. There is a train station at L’Argentière la Bessée (“L’argentière les Écrins).

Level

Full and long route. The level of climbing does not exceed 4+, you will need to be in good physical shape to have the most fun.

Price

This price includes the prestation of a high-mountain guide of the Bureau des Guides et Accompagnateurs des Écrins. It does not include the eventual rental of equipment, neither the night at the refuge or your meals/snacks.

Period

Race scheduled every day of the summer from June to September. On request outside these dates. The Pelvoux refuge is guarded from June to September. Out of these dates, you would have to make yourself your meals, with a stove, by taking the food to the refuge.
