Barre Noire corridor

Sector : White glacier sector
Duration : 2 days
Meeting : 2pm at the white glacier refuge (2550m)
Collective : 550 € per person (from 2 up to 2 participants)
Private : 1000 € global (until 2 participants)
The Black Barre Corridor, on the north side of the Barre des Écrins, is quickly accessible from the Ecrins refuge. The high altitude of the corridor keeps it in good condition for most of the summer, and its location on the north face of the Ecrins adds to the aesthetics of the line and the landscape appeal of the ascent, which is very open for a corridor. At the top, the easiest solution is to cross to reach the descent route, but it is also possible to climb the Barre des Écrins afterwards, or even the Dome des Écrins, both at an altitude of over 4000 m.

Programm

On the first day, you will meet your guide at the White glacier refuge, which you will have reached in two hours of hiking on the path from Mrs Carle’s meadow. Roped on the White Glacier, you can find back your crampons sensations during the ascent to the next refuge of the White Glacier sector, the Ecrins refuge at 3170 m where you’ll spend the night. The second day, after a night departure by the light of the headlamp, you will climb the 400 meters of the corridor at 45° with a final at 50°. Depending on your desire and your shape, you will ether join the downhill route, climb the Dome (4015m) or climb the Barre des Écrins (4102 m).

The White glacier refuge is accessible by foot from Mrs Carle’s meadow where you can park your vehicle (large car park). About 700 m. of ascending elevation. To access Mme Carle’s meadow, you have to go through the valley, from L’Argentière la Bessée (Hautes Alpes), Vallouise, Pelvoux and Ailefroide. There is a train station at L’Argentière la Bessée called "l’Argentière les Ecrins".

Level
