The traverse of the Meije is a unique and unforgettable experience. It brings together everything that a mountaineer needs: climbing on a magnificent rock, mixed and glacial passages, atmosphere, duration, altitude, history.

Programm

– First day : Meet with your High Mountain Guide at the hour and place you’ve agreeded with your guide.
After the ascent by cable car by the first section, you’ll ascent the breach of the Meije by the Enfectchores to reach the famous refuge of the Promontory.

– The second day, departure with the light of you headlamp to reach the summit of the Meije by its normal route on the south face: Promontory Ridge, Grande muraille, Square Glacier, Cheval rouge, so many historical names that will resonate in your ear.
Traverse of the ridges to the Finger of God then descending to the refuge of the Eagle, and finally into the valley.

– The Meije traverse can also be done in 3 days with one night at the Promontory refuge and the other one at the Eagle one.

Equipment

– Mountain pants.
– Warm under clothes.
– Warm fleece jacket.
– Waterproof and breathable jacket.
– 2 pairs of gloves, hat.
– Warm socks.
– Sunglasses, sunscreen for face and lips.
– Medium capacity backpack (30 to 40 litres).
– A minimum of one litre bottle, groceries and picnic.

– Headlamp with batteries in good condition.
– bed sheet. No need for sleeping bags (there are blankets at the refuge)

– alpinism shoes with stiff soles that can be fitted with crampons (check with your crampons before you hike to the refuge) (1)

Access

You can access La Grave by going through the Romanche Valley from Bourg d’Oisans or from Briançon and the Lautaret pass.

Level

It is a long and technical route. The difficulties are not to be neglected, nor the fact that you will stay several hours at an altitude higher than 3700 m. Level: Difficult
